Firefighter Burned While Battling Elmwood Avenue House Fire in Norwalk
The blaze was called in at about 1:18 p.m. on Thursday.
NORWALK, CT — A firefighter suffered first and second-degree burns "to his back, arm and hand" Thursday afternoon while battling a house fire on Elmwood Avenue in Norwalk, according to Deputy Fire Chief Edward Prescott.
The firefighter, whose identity was not disclosed, was first taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment, but was transferred to the Bridgeport Hospital Burn Center for further treatment. His condition was not immediately known. No other injuries were reported, and all occupants safely got out of the house, according to fire officials.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at about 1:18 p.m., and Elmwood Avenue was closed while firefighters battled the blaze.

According to a statement from Prescott:
Upon arrival Firefighters found heavy smoke pushing from the homes attic dormers. As firefighters attacked the fire an elderly woman was evacuated from the first floor. Three of the other 5 occupants who were home at the time of the fire, self evacuated prior to firefighters arrival.
Firefighters advanced 2 hose lines and ventilated the roof above 2 of the 3 dormers to bring the fire under control, as the fire threatened to burn through the roof.
The American Red Cross responded to the scene to provide shelter for the 6 displaced residents. 29 Firefighters responded to the scene on 4 Engines, 2 Trucks a Rescue and Command Car. Westport Fire Department provided mutual aid coverage along with 1 Norwalk engine during the fire.
Fire Inspector Luca Feola and Firefighter Phil D’Acunto are investigating the cause of the fire. The house was posted unfit for occupancy.
