Firefighters Extinguish Basement Fire: Norwalk FD

Three people fled from a Norwalk home after flames broke out in the home's basement, according to fire officials.

NORWALK, CT — Fire officials said three people fled from a Ryan Avenue house early Friday morning after flames broke out in the home's basement. The incident occurred around 3 a.m.

Deputy Fire Chief Todd Smith said in a release that light smoke was seen coming from the rear of the residence and three people were already outside when crews arrived.

"Investigation revealed a basement room with a couch and chair on fire," Smith said in a release.

Smith said the fire was rapidly extinguished and the couch and chair were moved to outside the house, which was subsequently searched and ventilated.

One occupant complained of minor smoke inhalation problems and was treated by EMS, Smith said. The fire prevention bureau was called to investigate the cause of the fire.

Smith said it is unknown at this time if the house was fit for occupancy, as the investigation is ongoing.
