Firefighters Extinguish Norwalk Pawn Shop Fire: FD
Firefighters were alerted after police officers responding to a burglar alarm in the area noticed a strong odor of smoke.

NORWALK, CT – Firefighters responded to a fire at a Main Street pawn shop Saturday night at approximately 11:45 p.m., fire officials said. The department was alerted of the fire after Norwalk police officers responding to a burglar alarm noticed a strong odor of smoke in the area of A Yankee Peddler & Loan.
According to a news release, firefighters quickly forced entry into the building and found a small fire in a rear office of the building. A rear door to the structure was also forced open to ventilate the building.
Fire officials said the building is fortified with roll down steel doors with heavy duty locks.

"Smoke and soot damage filled the store, with fire and heat damage confined to the rear office," Deputy Chief Edward Prescott said in a release. "Firefighters remained on scene ventilating the building until 1 a.m., and Deputy Fire Marshal Kirk McDonald was investigating the cause of the fire."
Prescott said three engines, two trucks and a Rescue and Command car responded to the fire.
