Firefighters Respond To Trash Compactor Fire In Norwalk: FD

Firefighters responded to a trash compactor fire at a local Walmart, the cause of which is under investigation.

NORWALK, CT – Firefighters responded to a trash compactor fire at Walmart on Main Avenue just before 8 a.m. Monday morning. According to a news release, the compactor was located at the rear of the store and attached through the wall to the warehouse section of the building.

When firefighters arrived, smoke from the fire had filled the warehouse and created a light haze within the retail area.

"While firefighters were working to extinguish the fire, additional fire crews worked to limit the smoke infiltration into the retail areas," Deputy Chief Edward Prescott said in a release. "Firefighters had to call the dumpster contractor to the scene to remove the unit from the building and dump the contents in the parking lot for extinguishment."
