First County Bank Employees Help Families in Recovery Program

The Liberation Programs division helps 50 pregnant or parenting women a year and got 1 1/2 SUV's worth of clothing and items.

An announcement from Liberation House:

Employees from First County Bank chose Liberation Programs as this year’s recipient of donations collected during their annual Holiday Party. Items gathered-from Liberation Programs’ Wish List – included diapers, formula, new bath towels, new clothing for children and adults, and personal care items. Enough to fill one and half SUVs with much-needed goods!

Donated items will be distributed to clients in both of Liberations’ long-term residential substance abuse treatment programs. Located in Norwalk, the Families in Recovery Program serves up to 50 pregnant or parenting women a year, also providing special services for children since mothers can bring two children up to the age of 10 into the program with them. Liberation House in Stamford provides residential treatment services to 65 men at a time.

According to Maggie Young, Liberation’s Director of Residential Programs. “Addiction can and does break families apart, leaving people feeling unworthy and ungrateful, but because of community support like this, the women and men in our programs have an opportunity to realize that other people care about them, that they do matter. Sometimes this is the first step in realizing one’s own self worth so that the healing process of recovery can begin. We are very grateful to First County Bank employees for their generosity and compassion.”

Karen Kelly, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at First County Bank delivered the employees’ donations to Liberation Programs. “One of our priorities at First County is to serve the communities in which we work, and it has become a tradition at our Holiday Party to make a contribution to one of the area nonprofits. This year, we chose Liberation Programs because we want to recognize their work in helping to break the cycle of addiction. We know that not only helps the individual, but improves our whole community.”
