NORWALK, CT — A Florida man was charged this week in connection to a sexual assault investigation by Norwalk police, according to the department.

In a news release, Police Lt. Tomasz Podgorski said the department's Special Victims Unit began investigating a sexual assault complaint in June.

After a lengthy investigation, police determined Fran Rene Garcia-Pineda, 31, was a suspect in the assault, according to Podgorski.

Police learned Garcia-Pineda was living in Miami, Fla., and obtained an extraditable warrant for his arrest.

Norwalk Police Detective Patrick English then worked with another Norwalk officer assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force to arrest Garcia-Pineda, according to Podgorski.

The task force found Garcia-Pineda in Miami and arrested him on April 4. He was extradited to Norwalk on Tuesday, Podgorski said.

Garcia-Pineda was charged with third-degree sex assault. His bond was set at $150,000 and he was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, Podgorski said.
