NORWALK, CT — A former Norwalk Public Schools staff member accused of stealing over $35,000 from a student athletic fund was arrested Wednesday, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Tomasz Podgorski said the school district reported in June 20 a former staff member had committed thefts over an extended period of time, prompting a police investigation.

According to Podgorski, the investigation revealed Marilyn Knox, 67, of Norwalk, stole $35,924.10 from the Brien McMahon High School student athletic fund between July 21, 2021, and Jan. 9, 2023, while working as a bookkeeper.

The stolen money was found to have been used for personal expenses, Podgorski said. Knox was fired from her position following an in-house investigation by the school.

Knox was charged with first-degree larceny and her bond was set at $50,000. She is scheduled to appear in court later this month, according to Podgorski.
