Former Owner Of Popular East Norwalk Seafood Stand Dies At 77
He operated the popular Norwalk seafood stand for decades before selling the business in 2000.
NORWALK, CT — The longtime owner of a popular outdoor waterfront seafood stand in East Norwalk passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at the age of 77.
According to an obituary published in the TC Palm on Aug. 15, John "Neil" Overton passed away at his daughter's home in Elizabethtown, Ky., after a tough fight with ALS. He was born and raised in Norwalk and had moved to moved to Port St. Lucie, Fla., after retiring.
According to the Norwalk Hour, Overton owned the popular summer spot Overton's Seafood on Seaview Avenue, which he operated for decades before selling the business in 2000. The seafood stand was founded by his father, Willis Overton, in 1948, and it still retains much of its old-fashioned charm to this day.

According to their website, Overton's offers a long dock in front of the restaurant for boaters to tie up for lunch or dinner, and the outside deck offers guests the opportunity to take in gorgeous water views as they eat.
Their menu features hot dogs, burgers and fries, as well as New England summer favorites like clam rolls and fried scallops and shrimp. They also sell ice cream for dessert.

A celebration of Overton's life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. in Port St. Lucie, Fla., at Savanna Club in the Cove Grand Ballroom.
