Local children need a family

Annie C. Courtney Foundation is hosting its monthly information meeting for prospective foster and adoptive parents at Grace Community Church, 365 Lukes Wood Rd, New Canaan, CT 06840 on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 6:00pm. Join us to learn more about becoming a foster or adoptive parent through one of several licensed foster care agencies, including DCF, in this region of Connecticut.

At the meeting, our staff will provide information and assistance to prospective families regarding licensing requirements, individual children available for immediate placement, and an overview of the child welfare system. We will talk with you about the foster care agencies (DCF and private) available to local families and assist you in identifying a match to fit your family’s needs. There is no cost or obligation.

By fostering or adopting, you will help a child heal and enrich your own life. “I cannot believe I get to do this job,” states one foster mom. “The satisfaction I get is seeing the kids I care for start to blossom. I love seeing a child’s self-confidence grow. The most amazing thing is when a child starts to feel safe and secure, and you can see the worry and stress melt way.”

Would you consider opening your heart and your home to a deserving child or youth? Did you know that foster families receive assistance with medical and dental care, and a daily stipend to cover the costs associated with caring for a child? Social workers visit regularly to provide supports to families and the children under their care and supervision. Additional services are provided for kids who need them.

“I missed having children in my home,” maintains another foster mom. “I love being a ‘mom’ again. And I find it so rewarding to have been a part of the kids’ lives when they needed it most. I miss them when they leave but I always try to maintain a connection with their families after they move on.” Foster families are encouraged to maintain ongoing relationships with children’s birth families and/or adoptive families – relationships that continue long past the day a child leaves their homes. It is one of the many rewards associated with being a foster parent.
