Free education for families of those living with mental illness
12-week course addresses the challenges faced by family members seeking to understand and support loved ones living with mental illness

Family-to-Family is a free, 12-session program for family, partners, friends, caregivers and significant others of adults living with serious mental illness. Developed by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, it will be taught by trained teachers from the local community who have first-hand experience in meeting the unique challenges faced by these families.
The free course covers depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders. Participants learn how mental illness affects a person’s brain and behavior, the impact of medications, and how families can help. Workshops focus on empathy, communication and coping skills. “People have become more aware of mental illness and are more willing to talk about it than ever before,” said Peter Case, one of the two instructors for the Family-to-Family course.
Classes will be held in the Cafeteria Conference Room of Greenwich Hospital, 5 Perryridge Road, Greenwich, Conn. Weekly meetings will be held 9:15 to 11:30 am on Saturdays, from January 16 through April 2, 2016.
