Free Mattress, Box Spring Recycling Event Scheduled For Norwalk: What To Know

The city is scheduled to hold its next mattress and box spring recycling event soon. Here are the details.

NORWALK, CT — The city is scheduled to hold its next mattress and box spring recycling event this weekend in Norwalk.

According to the city's Facebook page, the event will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norwalk Public Works Center, located at 15 South Smith Street, in the parking area next to the gas pumps.

The city noted the event "is perfect timing for spring cleaning."

The free collection program allows Norwalk residents to responsibly recycle their unwanted mattresses and box springs through the city's partnership with the Mattress Recycling Council's Bye Bye Mattress Program, according to the city's post.

Mattresses and box springs must be dry and intact, according to the city.

The following items are unacceptable, according to the city:

  • Severely damaged, twisted, wet, frozen or soiled mattresses.
  • Mattresses infested with bed bugs or other living organisms.
  • Sleeping bags, pillows, cushions, loose bedding, mattress pads or toppers, etc.
  • Car beds.
  • Juvenile products (carriage, basket, stroller, crib bumper, etc.).
  • Water beds.
  • Camping or air mattresses.
  • Fold out sofa beds.
  • Futons or furniture.
