Garage Fire Damages Norwalk Home: Fire Department

The fire was reported on Tuesday afternoon.

NORWALK, CT — A lawn mower caught fire in the garage of a home on Bayberry Lane in Norwalk Tuesday afternoon, damaging the garage and part of the home, according to Deputy Norwalk Fire Chief Edward Prescott.

The blaze was called into the department at about 3:45 p.m., and the homeowner's three cats had to be rescued by firefighters.

"When firefighters arrived the 2-car garage below the ranch style house, was fully involved in fire and extending up the side of the home," wrote Prescott in a statement. "Firefighters initial fire attack was hampered by the electrical service line arcing, after it burned off the house, but despite the slight delay maneuvering the hose lines around the downed wire the fire was brought under control in 20 minutes."

The three cats were found inside the home after a several-minute-long search, and they were transported to a local veterinary clinic for evaluation.

"A Toyota Highlander also sustained fire damage, as it was parked in front of the garage doors," Prescott said. "Fire and heat damage was primarily in the garage with some extension into the living areas."
