A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise funds for a Norwalk woman recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

NORWALK, CT — A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise funds for a Norwalk woman recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

According to the campaign's description, Liz Bannish's close friends and family are doing all they can to help support her following the diagnosis.

"Despite the startling diagnosis and the difficult road ahead," the GoFundMe description reads, "we are grateful and relieved that Liz...has a great prognosis and will get through this with our help."

The campaign was created last week to help Bannish with expenses resulting from her diagnosis, including medical bills, therapies, holistic treatments, supplements, travel and other unforeseen costs.

"Liz is preparing for upcoming surgery and will need to take time off work to recover, resulting in a significant loss of income," according to the campaign description, which also notes it is "imperative that Liz not over-extend herself while she recuperates."

An update posted Tuesday to the GoFundMe page noted Bannish's recent surgery was successful and she is currently awaiting her next steps.

According to the fundraiser, Bannish leads printmaking classes and volunteers at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk.

"To know Liz is to love her," the description reads, "and for any one of us who has ever gone through a hard time, if Liz is in your life, then you already know she has your back. Scrappy and tough as she is, she needs our help right now and this is a moment for us to give what we can, in whatever way we can, as many of us know (and have experienced) her doing the same for us."

As of Wednesday evening, the GoFundMe page has raised over $8,500 toward a $7,000 goal after receiving nearly 100 donations. Those who wish to donate can do so here.

"By joining forces, we can raise sufficient funds to provide Liz with significant relief," the description reads. "No contribution is too large or too small to aid one of the brightest lights in our world."
