Historic Palace Theater Property Sold For $2.3M In Norwalk: Report

The historic Palace Theater building in South Norwalk was recently sold for $2.3 million, according to media reports.

NORWALK, CT — The historic Palace Theater property, located at 29 North Main Street in South Norwalk, recently sold for $2.3 million, according to media reports.

Westport-based Vidal/Wettenstein Commercial Real Estate reported the sale Monday on the agency's website.

Ryan Casey of Servant Connecticut represented the buyer in the transaction, according to the real estate agency.

Westfair Business Journal reports the theater was purchased by Kingdom Full Tabernacle International Ministries, a Darien-based church.

According to cinematreasures.org, the Palace Theater opened in December of 1914 and contained 1,149 seats. The theater hosted a number of famous performers, including Harry Houdini, W.C. Fields and Mae West.

The building was later converted into a movie theater before closing in 1966. It then reopened and closed a few more times under different owners and was utilized in a variety of different capacities throughout its history.

The Norwalk Hour reports the building totals 20,000 square feet of space, which includes basement storage space measuring over 8,000 square feet.

At various times between 2013 and 2018, the building was listed on the city's recurring list of properties that could be seized for nonpayment of property taxes, according to The Norwalk Hour.
