I-95 Construction Work In Westport May Impact Traffic In Norwalk: PD

Police advise residents to find alternate routes and avoid the area while work is going on to reduce backup into Westport and other areas.

NORWALK, CT — An Interstate 95 bridge lateral slide construction project scheduled to take place over two upcoming weekends at Exit 17 in Westport may impact traffic in Norwalk, according to police.

In a Facebook post, police said the Connecticut Department of Transportation plans to begin construction Friday, with work taking place through Monday. Construction will then take place again Nov. 3-6.

According to police, this work will severely affect traffic flow on I-95, and residents are advised to seek out alternate routes and avoid the area during these times to reduce backups and overflow into Westport and adjacent areas.

Norwalk police officers will also be assigned to traffic posts at congestion spots to assist with traffic throughout the city.

The DOT is utilizing accelerated bridge construction techniques to expedite construction and reduce the impacts on travel for the public. This will be achieved by reconstructing the center median and right shoulders along with resurfacing the highway mainline and ramps at interchanges 16 and 17, according to police.
