Layoffs Coming to Norwalk Schools

Layoffs, closing the high school pool and other measures are being taken to plug a deficit.

NORWALK, CT — Layoffs and other cuts were approved Thursday to close a nearly $2 million budget hole for the Board of Education's upcoming fiscal year.

The high school pool will close, 43 kindergarten aide positions will be eliminated and Brookside Elementary School's preschool will be closed, according to the Norwalk Hour.

Rising health insurance costs and a one-time reduction to cover the Special Education Development fund caused part of the deficit.
