Letter To The Editor: Former Norwalk BOE Member Owed An Apology

Shirley Mosby "endured being viciously labeled" when she and others complained they were being excluded from BOE emails.

To the Editor:

I read somewhere that the only people mad at you for speaking the truth are those people who are living the lie.

After careful consideration I believe Shirley Mosby, a former Norwalk Board of Education (BOE) member, is owed an apology. She endured being viciously labeled when she and two other former board members made claims that they were excluded from BOE emails. There were even FOI requests for Ms. Mosby's emails. Admittedly, I wasn’t sure of this ethics violation because I hadn’t seen the proof. I was very sure, however, when, per court documents, Mike Lyons admitted the exclusions under oath. This was when charges were brought against him, soley and not the entire BOE, by Christina Fensore, a former Nowalk Public Schools employee, for a letter he took upon himself to write to her current employer. Ms. Mosby won the FOI hearing and the Fensore case was recently settled.

I am most impressed by what I now see as Ms. Mosby’s stamina. Never once did she respond or attack in the response sections of the news outlet(s) that allowed her to be freely and publicly attacked. It is written that other board members called Lyons on this exclusion. I am most shocked by the fact that this woman was vilified and asked to resign, yet no one has vilified Lyons or publicly called out his actions as an ethics violation, even after the court documents were made public. No one has called for his resignation. Are we sending the message that the gander is above and cannot be touched by what is good for the goose?
