Be Victorious Over Loss

Stamford, CT - June 6, 2018 - Life is hard. And by the time you’ve reached your 40th birthday, most of us have experienced a significant loss. According to psychiatrists Holmes and Rahe, certain events can alter the quality of our life. At the top of that scale is death of a spouse immediately followed by divorce. In other words, the loss of someone you love can cause stress overload and you can become ill.

When a loss is suddenly upon you, it’s difficult to know where to start piecing your life back together. You may have a lawyer, relative or even pastor who can give some guidance. But that sort of help can be hit or miss. You may have a therapist and they can help you to understand the root causes of your feelings and your response to loss. They can help you dig deep into your past and help you be aware of your previous choices and how they effect who you are today.

Another way to approach “regrouping” is to consider working with a life coach. A life coach can help you set goals for your new life and help you be accountable to yourself for your own progress. For example, if you have unexpectedly become a widow, you might want to downsize your home, or get back into the work force or even go back to school. A life coach will keep you on track with your emotional healing and with attaining pragmatic goals.

Kimberly White has recently launched her new life coaching business called, ‘Victory Over Loss.” Years ago, while pursuing a Master’s degree in Counseling, Kimberly interned at the now defunct Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care in Stamford under the careful tutelage of Dr. Ed Simas, Bereavement Coordinator. Dr. Simas was a pioneer in the field of Bereavement Counseling and one of the founders of the movement to bring hospice care to the U.S. and was viewed as a regional expert. Dr. Simas perfected his craft and cared for thousands of grieving people in his 35 year role which ended in his passing in 2010. He developed support groups for the grieving that helped many individuals get back on their feet.

Dr. Simas ignited a passion in Kimberly to help guide people experiencing loss. Kimberly is starting a support group on June 13th that meets weekly and is open to all. The meetings are housed at the Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on Grove Street in Stamford and held every Wednesday from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. Kimberly hopes that visitors can benefit from shared experiences with others in the same stages of grief, hear about others’ coping strategies and gain a new perspective - all in a judgment free zone. All are welcome.

Kimberly's motto: No one has to grieve alone.

Kimberly, who has a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling, believes that a support group can help shorten the painful journey of recovering from loss. And for those who need more than the weekly support group, Kimberly offers one-on-one care. Initially, Kimberly offers a 20 minute free “discovery call” either by phone or by Skype to explore whether it’s a good fit for her private coaching sessions. Kimberly charges for her weekly sessions at her private home office in Stamford.

Kimberly’s goal is to be walk in the footprints of Dr. Ed Simas. She is reaching out to local hospitals, funeral homes and churches to foster awareness of the support group and coaching services.
