Longtime Norwalk Police Officer Retires After 15 Years

NORWALK, CT — On Thursday, Officer Bruce Lovallo officially retired after 15 years with the Norwalk Police Department.

In a tribute posted to Facebook, police said Lovallo was sworn in as a Norwalk police officer in January 2008.

Lovallo served in a number of departments during his professional career, including the Patrol Division, Special Services Division, Marine Unit, Community Policing and Traffic Unit, according to police.

Lovallo was awarded Officer of the Month on several occasions for his excellent outreach and community work as the Community Policing Officer for East Norwalk. He was also recognized for his dedication and investigative work that led to arrests connected to "significant property damage and vandalism" in the East Norwalk area, police said.

Lovallo was also awarded a Unit Citation, Distinguished Services Award and a Meritorious Commendation certificate for his quick actions after arresting a suspicious person near a memorial gathering who was found to be hiding a firearm and ammo, according to police.

Over the years, Lovallo participated in the city's annual Memorial Day Parade, was a member of the Norwalk Police Emerald Society organization's pipe band and volunteered his time at the Grassroots Tennis and Education camp.

Lovallo also received numerous letters from Norwalk residents and outside organizations thanking him for "his professionalism, dedication and compassion during his career," according to police.

"We are very sad to see Bruce leave," the post reads, "but we are very grateful for his loyal service, which helped to make our department and the city of Norwalk a better place for us all. Please join us in wishing Bruce the best in his retirement."
