NORWALK, CT — A man accused of selling cocaine that contained fentanyl in Norwalk was arrested Thursday after a months-long investigation, according to police.

In a news release, Deputy Chief Terrence Blake said the department's Special Services Division received information in May that Joshua Powell, 30, of Stamford, was selling large quantities of powder and crack cocaine that contained fentanyl in Norwalk and launched an investigation.

Over the next several months, investigators made several controlled narcotics purchases from Powell. As a result of their investigation, five arrest warrants were issued for Powell charging him with sale of a controlled substance, according to Blake.

On Thursday, police located Powell on Main Street around 7:30 p.m. According to Blake, Powell tried to discard cocaine as officers approached him, which later tested positive for the presence of fentanyl.

Powell was charged with sale of narcotics and possession of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $100,000.

Powell was additionally charged on warrants with five counts of sale of narcotics and possession of controlled substance. An additional bond was set at $750,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court Friday, according to Blake.
