Man Accused Of Sexual Assault In Norwalk Arrested In Florida: PD

Police said a man accused of sexually abusing a child in Norwalk was arrested in Florida after eluding law enforcement for over three years.

NORWALK, CT — Police said a man accused of sexually abusing a child in Norwalk was recently arrested in Florida after eluding law enforcement for over three years.

According to a news release, police said they received information on Dec. 22, 2014, that Antonio Lazaro Torres-Rodriguez, 39, had sexually abused a child in Norwalk over a prolonged period of time.

An investigation was quickly initiated, which police said revealed that a second juvenile victim was involved.

After securing an arrest warrant for the accused, officers learned he had fled the state. Police said he was tracked across multiple states but eventually eluded law enforcement.

According to police, the accused was arrested on March 12 in Orlando, Fla., on charges of driving under the influence.

"Despite having provided a false name to Orlando authorities, Torres-Rodriguez’s fingerprints revealed his true identity, as well as the fact that he had an active arrest warrant stemming from the Norwalk incident," Sgt. Sofia Gulino said in a release. "Orlando authorities contacted Norwalk Police."

Officers traveled to Orlando on Tuesday and took the accused into custody. They then transported him back to Norwalk without incident, police said.

The accused was charged with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of intentional cruelty to persons, police said.
