Police said a man accused of shooting a person in the abdomen at an East Norwalk home in January was arrested this week.

NORWALK, CT — A New Haven man accused of shooting a person in the abdomen at an East Norwalk home in January was arrested Thursday, according to police.

In a news release, Police Sgt. Ryan Evarts said officers received a report of shots fired with one person struck in the abdomen on Jan. 26.

When police and emergency medical services officers arrived at the East Norwalk home, they found a person conscious and alert with one gunshot wound to their abdomen. They were taken to Norwalk Hospital and treated for their injuries, Evarts said.

Police identified Raymond Dewitt, 25, of New Haven, as the suspected shooter and later obtained a search warrant for his home, where they found crucial evidence, according to Evarts.

On Thursday, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force and Norwalk police found Dewitt in New Haven. He was arrested on charges of first-degree assault, criminal use of a weapon and carrying a pistol without a permit.

His bond was set at $250,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court later this month, according to Evarts.
