NORWALK, CT — This Valentine's Day, the Maritime Aquarium invites guests to participate in a fun fundraiser by naming a veggie, cockroach or fish after an ex, which will then be fed to one of their resident animals.

According to a news release provided by the Norwalk aquarium, the fundraiser is open to "the broken-hearted, the happily single and anyone with a sense of humor," offering them a chance to "turn heartbreak into something revenge-worthy with Love Bites, a playful fundraiser celebrating catharsis, conservation and delicious poetic justice."

Guests who participate in Love Bites can symbolically name a veggie, cockroach or fish after an ex "or anyone else who deserves a good-natured nibble. Their chosen "bite" will then be fed to an animal at the aquarium, according to the release.

Participants can choose from the following options, according to the aquarium:

  • Veggie ($5): Fed to sea turtle Lefty. (A little crunch for a gentle release.)
  • Cockroach ($10): Served to monitor Peewee. (For exes who crawled out of your life and into this lizard's lunch.)
  • Fish ($15): Delivered to seal Sono. (A splashy farewell to that one that got away.)

According to the aquarium, these tax-deductible gifts will support the aquarium's mission of helping their animals thrive, protecting vital marine ecosystems and bringing award‑winning science education to more students across the region.

Anyone who wishes to participate in the Love Bites fundraiser can do so here.

"Because sometimes the best way to heal a broken heart is to feed it to a seal," the release reads.
