Mayor Declares State of Emergency For Norwalk
Mayor Moccia orders mandatory evacuation for residents in low-lying coastal areas.

Mayor Richard A. Moccia has declared a state of emergency for Nowalk as Hurricane Irene bears down on Connecticut.
Moccia issued a mandatory evacuation beginning at 1 p.m. for residents living in low-lying coastal areas and other waterways.
Starting at 3 p.m., will open its doors for residents and their pets seeking shelter from the hurricane. People must bring their own supplies including medication and sleeping bags. Pets must be in carriers and dogs should have all their shots, including ones for rabies.

Norwalk Transit will provide rides to the shelter for residents free of charge. The mayor recommends that residents arrive at the shelter before 10pm.
