Ridgefield Football Edges McMahon, 14-13

Tigers hold on after the Senators couldn't convert a two-point conversion attempt in the final minute

In a thriller Friday, the Ridgefield football team held on to defeat McMahon 14-13 after the Senators nearly pulled out the game in the final minute.

The Tigers, who rebounded from last week's 27-12 loss to Norwalk, had taken a 14-7 lead on Matt Flanagan 5-yard touchdown reception from Connor Rowe midway through the fourth quarter.

The Senators answered on Damien Vega's 26-yard TD pass to Zack O'Connor with under a minute left. Instead of kicking the extra point and possibly going into overtime, McMahon played for the win and lost the gamble when the two-point conversion was unsuccessful.

It was the third game the Senators (3-4) have lost in the fourth quarter this season two of them were decided in the last minute. McMahon also suffered a 24-21 loss to Staples on a field goal with two seconds remaining.

Ridgefield's offense was shut down in the first half as the Senators grabbed a 7-0 lead at intermission on Brandon Freeman's 60-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter.

The Tigers came alive in the second half and running back Sam Gravitte scored the game's first offensive touchdown on a 21-yard run in the third quarter.

Griffin Jones then kicked the first of his two extra points. Jones' second extra point turned out to be the difference in the contest.
