New Arts Studio to Offer Winter Cardinals Paint & Sip on Friday
Whether it's Ladies Night or Date Night, Norwalk residents will enjoy a fun, festive night out and go home with a beautiful work of art.

NORWALK, CT — Grab some wine and friends and for a festive winter-themed Paint 'n Sip Night this Friday, Jan. 19 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Attendees will be painting winter cardinals at the newly opened Arts & Nature School of Ridgefield under the instruction of Bethel artist Jesse Lewis who will give step-by-step instructions on how to create a mini masterpiece.
The bird is named for the red plumage of the male, which was said to look similar to a cardinal’s red vestments. During the courtship process, male Northern Cardinals are known to exhibit affection toward females by feeding her beak-to-beak. The Northern Cardinal is a favorite of backyard birders because of its bright red colors, joyful songs and year-round presence. Unlike many other songbirds in North America, both the male and female cardinals can sing. Usually, only a male songbird is capable of singing. When a female cardinal sings from the nest, it usually means she’s telling the male she needs more food.
Opened in November of 2017, The Arts & Nature School of Ridgefield is run by owner/director Wendy Mitchell, a singer, bass player, writer, teacher, DJ and musical theater director who studied Child Development at Post University and received her Head Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education through the State of Connecticut in 2008. Wendy is a current, active member of both the Ridgefield Arts Council, the Ridgefield Youth Commission and a former member of the Bethel Arts Commission and is passionate about promoting the arts in her community.
