New Director Of STEM Announced For Norwalk Public Schools

NORWALK, CT – Tina Henckel has been selected as director of STEM education for Norwalk Public Schools. In her new role, Ms. Henckel will work with the Chief Academic Officer Dr. Brenda Myers to facilitate the development and implementation of K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Math curriculum and overall K-12 STEM education initiatives.

According to a news release, Henckel joins NPS from Shelton Public Schools, where she was assistant director of STEM and data management. Prior to this position, she was a supervisor of math and technology, and also served as interim principal in Shelton.

Previous professional experience includes teaching high school math at Newtown and Ridgefield high schools.

An expert in understanding how the use of data can transform the educational environment to improve student achievement, Henckel has provided numerous keynote and training sessions at the local, state and tri-state level. She recently presented at the 2018 Sino-US Inter-School High School Educational Forum in Shanghai, China.

Henckel is the vice president for the Cooperative Educational Services Leadership Institute and is affiliated with several professional associations including Learning & The Brain Society, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

She received her 6th year degree and superintendent's certificate in Educational Leadership from the University of New England, and earned her master's degree from Western Connecticut State University in Instructional Technology. She also holds a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education Mathematics.

Her appointment was confirmed at the October 16 Board of Education meeting.
