Norwalk AAA Location to Resume Licensing Services for Non-Members

AAA Northeast has announced it will once again offer licensing services to non-members.

AAA Northeast will once again offer licensing services to non-members.

The company announced that it will continue the service for non-members until the end of its contract with the state.

“We appreciate AAA Northeast’s willingness to join us at the table and discuss how to continue to serve the best interest of Connecticut drivers,” Gov. Dannel Malloy said in a statement. “As a result of our recent discussion, AAA Northeast has committed to continuing to service to divers until the end of its current contract.”

AAA Northeast has locations in Branford, Danbury, Fairfield, Hamden, Milford, Norwalk, Stamford and Waterbury.

AAA Northeast will begin to serve non-members for licensing starting Oct. 18 and will continue through the end of the year, according to WFSB. President and CEO Mark Shaw said AAA Northeast will discuss its arrangement with the DMV to meet the needs of both sides.

Malloy said he hopes to have conversations regarding a longer-term contract.

The governor threatened legal action if AAA Northeast didn’t offer licensing services through the end of its contract.

AAA Allied has continued to serve non-members and wasn’t affected by AAA Northeast’s initial decision to stop licensing services. It has locations in Avon, Cromwell, Enfield, Manchester, Old Saybrook, Plainville, Waterford and West Hartford.

There is a $5 convenience fee for non-AAA members to use licensing services.

AAA Northeast cited several difficulties in its earlier decision to not offer licensing services to non-members.

It experienced a near doubling of office transactions while non-member transactions increased from 17 percent five years ago to nearly 50 percent in 2016. The REAL ID compliance for licensing has increased processing time by almost 50 percent.
