Norwalk Announces 2023 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Schedule

Acceptable items include oil and latex paints, lighter fluid, gasoline, transmission fluid, pesticides and other hazardous waste.

NORWALK, CT — The city has announced the schedule for its 2023 Household Hazardous Waste collection events in and around Norwalk.

According to a news release provided by the city, the events are free to Norwalk residents and include an upcoming event on April 22 in Westport from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The collection event in Westport will take place at the Greens Farm Railroad Station on New Creek Road, between Interstate 95 and the Metro-North Railroad tracks, in Parking Lot #1.

Norwalk will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Day event Aug. 26 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Norwalk High School, located at 23 Calvin Murphy Drive.

Those who attend are asked to have their driver's license or vehicle registration available. The event is open to residents only; no commercial or business loads will be accepted.

City officials also noted Wilton and Weston are no longer participating.


How To Transport HHW Materials Safely

  • Leave materials in original labeled containers.
  • Tighten caps and lids.
  • Pack containers in sturdy upright boxes and pad with newspapers.
  • Sort and pack separately: paint, pesticides, household cleaners, etc.
  • Pack your car and drive directly to the HHW event.
  • Please do NOT mix chemicals!

HHW in original sealed containers with a screw cap, if possible, are recommended.

  • Penta Brand Wood Preservatives
  • Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
  • Smoke Detectors (Return to Manufacturer)
  • Commercial or Industrial Waste
  • Empty Containers or Drums
  • Asbestos

Norwalk residents ONLY, please dispose of the following at the Norwalk Transfer Station:

  • Used Motor (Waste) Oil
  • Antifreeze (fees apply)

  • Lithium Batteries (fees apply)
  • Alkaline Batteries (e.g. AA, C, D, etc.)
