NORWALK, CT — Michelle Woods Matthews, a former press secretary and communications

manager for State Treasurer Shawn Wooden, will serve as the new communications director for the city of Norwalk.

In a news release Friday, Mayor Harry Rilling said she will take over the position from Josh Morgan, who left the position in January for a new opportunity within state government.

"I am thrilled to have Michelle Woods Matthews join our team," Rilling said in a news release. "She has a dynamic background and wealth of communications experience. She joins us from Connecticut State Treasurer Shawn Wooden's office, where she served as the press secretary and managed their strategic communications efforts. We are fortunate to have her in our city and know that her talents will greatly benefit the residents of Norwalk."

Prior to her work with the state treasurer, Woods Matthews served as the communications director at Pro-Choice Virginia and the public and legislative affairs manager at Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, D.C.

She is currently pursuing her second master's degree in public administration from the University of Connecticut and will relocate to Norwalk in April, Rilling said.
