Norwalk Announces Police Officers of the Month
These honored police officers helped rescue 11 people who were onboard a boat.

On October 19, 2015 Officer Russ Ouellette, Officer Mark Suda, Officer Vidal Gonez and Officer Rich Dellalo were recognized as the September Officers of the Month by the Norwalk Police Commission. The recognition stems from a boat rescue that occurred on September 26, 2015 at 8:09 p.m.
These officers responded to Shea Island for a report of a boat taking on water. When they arrived, they found that the eleven passengers had evacuated the boat and swam back to Shea Island.
Facing rough conditions, these officers evacuated all eleven people off the island and transported them to the Veteran’s Park Docks, where Norwalk Emergency Medical Service evaluated two children for exposure. The group had been camping on Shea Island and had returned to their boat, which suffered a mechanical issue, causing it to take on water.
