City officials said a major overhaul of the James Street Bridge may get underway early next year, pending final approvals.

NORWALK, CT — A major overhaul of the James Street Bridge over the Silvermine River may get underway in February 2019, pending final approvals, the Norwalk Hour reported.

According to the Hour, a $1.82 million contract with NJR Construction, LLC to replace the bridge superstructure will be brought before the Norwalk Common Council Tuesday evening. City officials said they are also waiting on DOT authorization to award the contractor, which may take another 2-3 weeks.

Public Works Senior Engineer Vanessa Valadares said she is hoping to have the contract signed by the end of August, according to the Hour.
