Norwalk CC Prof. Signs On with Community College Union (4Cs)

Norwalk CC professor Gregory L. Jackson has joined the Congress of Connecticut Community Colleges (4Cs) as an internal organizer.

HARTFORD – Norwalk Community College History professor Gregory L. Jackson has joined the Congress of Connecticut Community Colleges (4Cs) as an internal organizer. The 4Cs is a faculty and staff union representing some 4,000 professionals.
Jackson will join two other 4Cs internal organizers who regularly interpret contract language, investigate and process members grievances, and lead contract enforcement activities. Other responsibilities include engaging, identifying, recruiting and developing worksite leaders. They are also expected to lead and conduct trainings, meetings, and other events vital to the active work of a college campus union Chapter.
“We’re fortunate to have someone with Greg’s experience in teaching and organizing join us,” said 4Cs President Bryan Bonina of Bristol. “He has a solid understanding of the state of community college education in both Connecticut and nationally,” Bonina said.

“Greg also clearly understands that the financial aftershocks of the Great Recession continue to threaten the community colleges at a time when they are needed most,” Bonina added. “This will serve him, our members and our students well in his new role as a faculty and professional staff advocate and representative.”
Jackson also has taught History at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, and Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, N.Y. His 11-year organizing and advocacy experience includes five years with the Graduate Student Employees Union Local CWA 1104 at Stony Brook, including three years as a recreational organizer for the same group.
During his career, he has been a member of the 4Cs, the Connecticut State University –American Association of University Professors (AAUP), the United Federation of Teachers (AFT), and the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union (HERE).
Jackson received his Ph.D. and master’s degree in History from Stony Brook, and his bachelor’s degree in the same field from Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y. He spent two years in international study in Spain and attended Orange County Community College in Middletown, N.Y. He is also fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
