NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk courthouse, which has been closed since March 2020, will not return to normal operation following a judge's order to consolidate its Superior Court facilities with Stamford, where Norwalk cases have been heard for over two years now, The CT Examiner reports.

In an email to staff, Chief Court Administrator Judge Patrick L. Carroll III said Norwalk cases only being handled twice a week in Stamford was "grossly inefficient" and led to unnecessary delays in cases, according to The CT Examiner. He also noted the courthouse would still be used to house other Judicial Branch functions.

According to The Norwalk Hour, a state judiciary spokesperson said in December there was no timeline for the reopening of the courthouse, located on Belden Avenue in the center of the city. The Stamford courthouse also closed in March 2020 but reopened in September of that year.
