Norwalk Delays Fall Yard Waste Collection By One Week
Collection begins Monday, Nov. 9, for Monday-through-Wednesday garbage routes, with other routes starting Monday, Nov. 16.
Norwalk has pushed its fall curbside yard waste collection schedule back one week, according to the city’s updated announcement. The city cited leaves taking longer to fall, allowing residents more time to rake and gather yard waste. The service is available to residents who routinely receive city garbage collection.
Residents with Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday garbage routes have yard waste collection during the weeks beginning Monday, Nov. 9, and Monday, Nov. 30. Thursday and Friday routes have collection during the weeks beginning Monday, Nov. 16, and Monday, Dec. 7.
Yard waste must be at the curb by 6 a.m. Monday of the assigned week and will be collected sometime that week. Do not mix yard waste with garbage. The city’s Department of Operations guidelines allow leaves in brown paper leaf bags, garbage cans without lids or open-top cardboard boxes.

Brush must be tied in bundles less than 4 feet long. Bags have a 25-pound weight limit, and bins have a 50-pound limit. The guidelines also instruct residents not to overload cans or bags.
The city will not collect plastic bags, loose leaves, loose brush, logs, stumps, rocks, soil, sand, mulch or lumber. Logs and stumps may be brought to the Yard Waste Site at 15 S Smith St., according to the department’s guidelines.
