Norwalk Fire Chief to Become Fairfield Fire Chief

Chief Denis McCarthy, a Fairfield resident, will take over the department on Oct. 1.

The Fairfield Fire Commission voted unanimously Monday night to appoint Denis McCarthy as the new fire chief.

McCarthy has lived in Fairfield for 38 years and has been chief of Norwalk FD since 2005, according to the Norwalk Hour.

His five-year term will start on Oct. 1.

McCarthy’s Fairfield salary will be $142,000 excluding health benefits.

Fairfield Chief Richard Felner will retire on Sept. 30 after more than 50 years with the department.

McCarthy is involved in several organizations, according to his Norwalk biography. He is chairman of the State of Connecticut HazMat Coordinating Council, Fairfield County Haz Mat Team and is the former chief of Westport Fire Department.
