Norwalk Firefighters Battle Pair Of Weekend Fires

Several residents were displaced, but no injuries were reported.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk firefighters battled two separate house fires over the weekend. In both incidents, no injuries were reported though several residents were displaced.

The first blaze, reported just before noon on Saturday, was at a house on Kossuth Street.

"On arrival the three-story, three-family home had fire showing on the second and third floor," stated Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Shay, adding that all 10 occupants managed to get out of the dwelling in time. "However the house was gutted and is posted unfit for occupancy."

The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes, and the cause remains under investigation. The American Red Cross has found temporary shelter for the 10 occupants.

In the second fire, residents of a home on Paradiso Street reported seeing smoke coming from the house on Sunday.

"All the occupants evacuated from the structure prior to fire department arrival," stated Deputy Fire Chief Albe Bassett. "Fire companies found fire burning in the ceiling of the second floor bathroom and the third floor apartment."

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and again, the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupants with temporary housing.
