Norwalk Firefighters Battle Second Structure Fire In 24 Hours

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk firefighters extinguished a structure fire early Sunday morning on Flax Hill Road, the second blaze local firefighters battled in the city in less than 24 hours.

The Flax Hill Road fire was reported in a two-family home at about 1 a.m. and resulted in the temporary displacement of five people. Deputy Fire Marshal Kirk McDonald is looking into the cause of the fire.

"All occupants were out of the three-story, two-family home upon arrival of firefighters," wrote fire officials in a statement, adding that heavy fire was seen burning in the rear of the second floor apartment.

"The fire destroyed a kitchen and bath/laundry area of the apartment, while the rest of the apartment and third floor sustained high heat and smoke damage."

The American Red Cross relocated a mother and seven-year-old child from the second floor apartment, and three adults from the first floor apartment.

A total of 25 firefighters responded to the scene with three Engines, two Trucks a Rescue and Command Car.
