Norwalk High Students Dismissed Early After Shelter Alert: UPDATE
Police and school officials said Norwalk High School students were dismissed early following a "shelter alert."

NORWALK, CT — Police and school officials said Tuesday that Norwalk High School was under a "shelter alert" as officers conducted an investigation. Police said on Twitter that all students and staff were safe, however no one was allowed in or out of the school.
"Norwalk High is currently under a “shelter” alert while security [and] officers investigate a report from a student this morning," officials said on the Norwalk Public Schools Twitter account. "It is business as usual in class, but no one will be allowed in or out of the building until the review is complete. Thanks for your understanding."
School officials also said students and staff were safe, and that police would alert them when the investigation was complete. Residents were asked not to call or go to the school during this time.

School officials eventually dismissed students early, at 1:30 p.m., out of caution.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the Norwalk Police Department and Norwalk Public Schools have decided to do an early dismissal at Norwalk High only, beginning at 1:30 pm.," officials said on the Norwalk Public Schools Facebook page. "Buses will be available. There will be no after school activities or programs tonight at Norwalk High. Our thanks to students and staff today -- everyone has done a great job in following all the safety procedures that we have practiced in the past."

Parents picking up their children were asked to do so at the American Legion across the street from the school on County Street.
According to Fox 61, the shelter alert was ordered by police after a student told school officials he thought he heard someone might have a weapon in school.
