Norwalk High Schools Rank Among Top CT Schools For 2022: U.S. News

The annual ranking released by U.S. News and World Report evaluates schools based on graduation rates, academic performance and more.

NORWALK, CT — The Center for Global Studies and Norwalk High School have been named among the top 100 public schools in Connecticut, according to a new national ranking by U.S. News and World Report.

This year's list of best high schools evaluated more than 17,800 schools nationwide, including 165 in Connecticut.

U.S. News and World Report noted the Center for Global Studies placed 43rd among Connecticut schools, and #1,960 on a national ranking. Among other factors, schools on the list are ranked based on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college.

According to the list, Center for Global Studies students have the opportunity to take advanced placement coursework and exams, with the school's AP participation rate at 41 percent. The school's graduation rate stands at an impressive 98 percent.

The total minority enrollment is 59 percent and 33 percent of students are economically disadvantaged, according to the list.

There are four total high schools in Norwalk: Center for Global Studies, Norwalk High School and Brien McMahon High School, as well as P-Tech Norwalk which was not ranked by U.S. News and World Report.

Norwalk High School ranked 74th among Connecticut schools, and #3,746 on a national ranking. According to the list, Norwalk High's AP participation rate is 50 percent.

The total minority enrollment is 73 percent and 63 percent of students are economically disadvantaged. The school's graduation rate is 85 percent.

Brien McMahon High School ranked 120th among Connecticut schools, and #6,530 on a national ranking. According to the list, Brien McMahon's AP participation rate is 30 percent.

The total minority enrollment is 77 percent and 61 percent of students are economically disadvantaged. The school's graduation rate stands at 89 percent.

The 2022 ranking of best high schools is intended to show how well the nation's public schools serve all students, regardless of achievement level, by teaching them basic skills and preparing them for college-level work, according to a news release from U.S. News.

Families can also use the rankings to see how schools compare at the national, state and local levels on factors such as graduation rates and college readiness.

No Connecticut school cracked U.S. News' Top 100, however Darien High School ranked at #191 on a national ranking. The school also ranked first among Connecticut schools.

Other nearby schools that ranked in the top 500 include Weston High School (#255), New Canaan High School (#320), Ridgefield High School (#391) and Greenwich High School (#408).

This year, the top 15 schools nationally are in 14 different states. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Virginia was ranked #1 in the nation, as well as among magnet schools.

This year's schools were ranked on six measures: college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment performance, state assessment proficiency, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance and graduation rates.
