Norwalk Home Demolished Months After Tragic House Fire
The Nelson Avenue home where a fire killed 7-year-old Summer Fawcett in May has been demolished, according to a city building official.

NORWALK, CT — The site of a tragic house fire that killed 7-year-old Summer Fawcett in May has been demolished, according to a city building official.
As of Tuesday afternoon, all that remains of the house at 7 Nelson Avenue is a detached two-car garage.
Bill Ireland, the city's chief building official, said in an email demolition work on the home began Nov. 10. and no plans have been submitted for future construction on the property as of Tuesday.

"The owner's insurance concurred with the city's findings that the structure should be demolished based on its unsafe, uninhabitable conditions as a result of the fire," Ireland said.
A demolition permit for the home was issued to Conte Company on Nov. 3, Ireland said.

A copy of the permit obtained by Patch indicates the estimated cost of the demolition was about $60,000.
Summer Fawcett, a 7-year-old Norwalk girl who lived at the Nelson Avenue home with her family, died after succumbing to injuries from the May 14 fire.
Her parents, Blair and Lindsay Fawcett, were able to escape the home with their young son, however both parents were injured trying to get up to Summer's second-floor bedroom.

Upon arrival, firefighters raised a ladder to the window and one firefighter climbed inside the burning room, located the child and passed her out the window to firefighters on the ladder, who carried her to the ground. She later died as a result of her injuries, fire officials said.
"This is an unimaginable nightmare," Mayor Harry Rilling said in a statement at the time of the incident. "My heart goes out to the parents of Summer Fawcett, Blair and Lindsay Fawcett, as they mourn the inconceivable loss of their 7-year-old daughter. This family is known among many in our community for their kindness and loving nature, and I hope they know that the city and the entire community are here for whatever they may need."
