Norwalk House 'Significantly Damaged' By Fire: FD
A Norwalk house fire resulted in significant smoke and heat damage and left the home unfit for occupancy, according to fire officials.
NORWALK, CT — A house fire Wednesday afternoon resulted in significant smoke and heat damage and left the home unfit for occupancy, according to Norwalk fire officials.
In a news release, Deputy Fire Chief Timothy Reardon said the fire broke out around 4:15 p.m. in a two-story single family house on William Street.
The fire was initially reported in the kitchen, Reardon said. When crews arrived, the found heavy smoke coming from the front of the house on the first floor.

Crews extinguished the fire in approximately 25 minutes, according to Reardon. The blaze was contained to the kitchen and hallway of the first floor.
The fire resulted in significant smoke and heat damage on the first and second floors of the home, leaving it unfit for occupancy, Reardon said.

Two residents and a pet exited the house before firefighters arrived, Reardon said. No injuries were reported.
In an email, Common Council member Heather Dunn said Norwalk's First Congregational Church is actively assisting the family with their recovery and the Western Connecticut American Red Cross Disaster and Recovery Team will also provide support.
The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire, according to Reardon.
