Norwalk Man Accused Of Selling Fake License Plates To Westport Cop

The suspect is accused of selling fake Texas registrations, according to Westport police.

WESTPORT, CT — A 36-year-old Norwalk man was arrested on a second-degree forgery charge in Westport Tuesday, after police said he sold a fake license plate and registration to a Westport detective, who was posing as a prospective customer.

Westport police learned that the suspect, Gamaliel Perez-Hernandez, "was allegedly creating, and selling fraudulent Texas registration plates and the associated registration paperwork," and a detective contacted him to set up a purchase, according to authorities.

"Mr. Perez-Hernandez agreed to create and sell the fraudulent documents based on the information provided by our Detective. On March 21st, 2023, Westport Police Detectives arranged to meet Mr. Perez-Hernandez to complete the transaction, and he was subsequently arrested after he was found to have the fraudulent documents with him."

Additional details, such as how much money Perez-Hernandez is accused of seeking for the materials, were not disclosed.

Perez-Hernandez was released after posting a $1,000 bond, and he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on March 30.
