NORWALK, CT — A Norwalk man accused of sexually assaulting a child was arrested last week following a lengthy investigation, according to police.

In a news release, Police Sgt. Ryan Evarts said a juvenile reported in October 2021 having been assaulted by Edelson Martinez, 72, of Norwalk, when they were between the ages of 5 and 7 years old.

Detectives from the department's Special Victims Unit were able to secure an arrest warrant for Martinez following a lengthy and detailed investigation, Evarts said. He was arrested Friday while walking to his home.

Martinez was charged with first-degree sexual assault, two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault and four counts of risk of injury to a minor.

His bond was set at $250,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court later this month, according to Evarts.
