Norwalk Man Attacked Firefighter Who Tried To Help Him: Report

The suspect was arrested on a warrant this week by Norwalk police.

NORWALK, CT — A 39-year-old Norwalk man was arrested on a warrant this week charging him with assault, breach of peace and related violations in connection with an August 2018 attempt to stab a Norwalk firefighter, writes The Hour.

Clifford Burns, who police said may have been high or intoxicated at the time, got into an altercation with the firefighter on Westport Avenue, after the firefighter tried to help him. During the altercation, Burns pulled a knife and tried to stab the firefighter, which led to the firefighter suffering cuts on this hands, though those lacerations were not from the blade, according to police.

Burns surrendered to police on Dec. 16 and was charged with second-degree assault, assaulting a public safety officer, pedestrian negligence, and second-degree breach of peace. He was held in lieu of bail of $50,000 and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Dec. 30.
