Norwalk Man Charged With Escaping From Custody: DOJ
Court officials said the accused faces a maximum prison term of five years and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted.

NORWALK, CT — United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut John H. Durham announced Friday a federal grand jury in Bridgeport returned an indictment on July 2 that charged Branden Huertas, 36, formerly of Norwalk with escape from the custody of the Bureau of Prisons.
According to a news release, Durham said the accused escaped from custody at the Chase Center in Waterbury on or around June 22.
The accused had been confined to the center to complete his term of incarceration after being convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm in 2015, Durham said.

Durham said the accused faces a maximum prison term of five years and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted. He was arrested on July 18 and is currently detained, Durham said.
Durham also stressed that an indictment is not evidence of guilt, and that charges are only allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
