Norwalk Man Charged With Severely Injuring 2-Year-Old: Report

Court officials said a Norwalk man has pleaded guilty to reduced charges of severely injuring a 2-year-old.

NORWALK, CT — Court officials said a Norwalk man has pleaded guilty to reduced charges of severely injuring a 2-year-old girl, the Norwalk Hour reported. The suspect, who had been convicted of second-degree sexual assault in 2005, is set to be sentenced in March to four years in prison, officials said.

Court officials said the child had moved from San Diego to Norwalk in May 2016 with her mother and brother, who were all staying at 32-year-old Pedro Salinas' home, according to the Norwalk Hour. Police said the child had been brought to the hospital by her mother in June of that same year.

Police said the child appeared to have injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome and to have suffered assaults on her head, the Norwalk Hour reported. She was diagnosed with multiple bruises, bleeding on the brain and retinal hemorrhaging that left her blind in one eye and with limited vision in the other, police said.
