Police said a Norwalk man was brought to Connecticut from New York this week to face charges stemming from a months-long investigation.

NORWALK, CT — A Norwalk man was brought to Connecticut from New York this week to face charges stemming from a months-long investigation by police, according to the Norwalk Police Department.

In a news release, Police Lt. Tomasz Podgorski said the Putnam County, N.Y., Sheriff's Office contacted the department's Special Victims Unit in April 2024 after arresting Francisco Javier Gomez, 22, who was accused of attempting to sexually assault a 13-year-old.

During their investigation, Putnam County investigators obtained evidence through court-authorized search warrants that indicated Gomez may have committed similar offenses within the city of Norwalk, according to Podgorski.

Norwalk police assumed the investigation and worked closely with Putnam County investigators, as well as the Stamford Superior Court State's Attorney's Office and federal partners from the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Department of Homeland Security, Podgorski said.

After an extensive months-long investigation that included the execution of multiple search warrants, detectives developed probable cause to arrest Gomez for offenses involving four juveniles that occurred in Norwalk, according to Podgorski.

Gomez later pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the New York investigation and has been incarcerated within the New York state correctional system, Podgorski said.

According to Podgorski, an agreement was reached between the state's attorney's offices in New York and Connecticut to allow Gomez to be transferred to Connecticut custody to complete his New York sentence while awaiting prosecution on the charges originating in Norwalk.

Norwalk detectives traveled to Marcy, N.Y., and took custody of Gomez on Tuesday. He was taken to Connecticut to be arraigned in Stamford Superior Court on Wednesday, according to Podgorski.

Gomez was charged with first-degree sexual assault with the use or threat of force, first-degree sexual assault with a victim under the age of 13, two counts of second-degree sexual assault with a victim between the ages of 13–15 and the actor more than 3 years older, two counts of first-degree possession of child pornography, two counts of employing a minor in an obscene performance, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and three counts of risk of injury to a minor – illegal sexual contact.

His bond was set at $250,000, according to Podgorski.
