Norwalk Man Convicted Of Firearm Offense After Leaving Gun Inside Restaurant Bathroom: Feds
Court officials said a man who left a loaded gun in a restaurant bathroom was found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
NORWALK, CT — A city man accused of leaving a loaded gun inside the bathroom of a Norwalk restaurant was found guilty last week by a federal jury of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, David Sullivan, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced in a news release.
According to evidence introduced during a trial, Christopher Miles, 40, of Norwalk, inadvertently left a loaded Glock 9mm pistol inside the restroom of a restaurant in Norwalk early the morning of Sept. 13, 2023.
The restaurant's manager contacted Norwalk police after an employee discovered the firearm while cleaning the restroom, Sullivan said.

Analysis of surveillance video from the restaurant confirmed Miles had entered the restroom shortly before an employee discovered the firearm and also showed Miles returning to the restaurant in an attempt to retrieve it, according to Sullivan.
An analysis of the firearm also revealed the presence of Miles' DNA, Sullivan said.

According to Sullivan, "Miles' criminal history includes state convictions for assault in the first degree, possession with intent to distribute narcotics and sale of a narcotic substance. It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce."
Sullivan also noted Miles faces a maximum prison term of 15 years at sentencing.
He has been detained since his arrest on related state charges in November 2023, Sullivan said.
