NORWALK, CT — A 36-year-old Norwalk man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday on heroin distribution charges, announced United States Attorney John H. Durham.

Following his 120-month prison stint, Joseph Daniels, also known by the street name "Sean," must serve eight years of supervised release, according to New Haven U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer.

Daniels was arrested by Norwalk police in May 2018 "after officers had made multiple controlled purchases of narcotics from him," according to prosecutors and court documents.

After searching Daniels' residence, car, and storage units he rented, authorities seized approximately 190 grams of heroin, other drugs, drug paraphernalia, and more than $59,000 in cash.

Daniels has been detained since his arrest, and in February of this year, he pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.

Durham said that Daniels' criminal history "includes state drug convictions and a federal conviction for distributing crack cocaine," and in June 2003, Daniels was sentenced in Bridgeport federal court to 43 months in prison.

This matter was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Norwalk Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jocelyn Courtney Kaoutzanis.
